Dear Committee Members,
This letter confirms the support of the Saskatchewan Organic Directorate
(SOD), for the NSERC strategic grant project headed by Dr. Daryl H.
Hepting of the University of Regina, entitled Information Technology in
Support of Civic Agriculture. SOD has helped to develop the project
proposal and agrees with its content.
The reasons for SOD involvement in, and support for this project are many.
This project directly relates to the goals and priorities of the
Saskatchewan Organic Directorate as an organization which represents and
assists in the development of organic agriculture. These include: the
implementation of a thriving, environmentally sustainable agricultural
production and processing industry in Saskatchewan, the reinforcement of
strong and resourceful agricultural people and families in Saskatchewan,
support for research and development to promote the development and
diversification of the agriculture and food sectors in Saskatchewan using
sustainable equitable food system with good food and fair compensation for
Saskatchewan producers. SOD will be directly involved in assisting the
researchers in the research and development in many aspects of the
project. Specifically, SOD will be involved in assisting the researchers
in policy and regulations, assisting in communication between the
researchers and Saskatchewan producers, offering a listing of agricultural
products for which they are willing to place in the project directory,
providing additional guidance and assistance as required. The benefits of
this project to SOD are numerous. This include: the assessment of
current policies and regulations relating to the production and
consumption of local agricultural products, offering a potential training
tool; and information tool for Saskatchewan producers and consumers, the
assessment of interest in local agricultural products from consumers and
where the interest is most prevalent in Saskatchewan, advertise local
products and link with consumers.
The Saskatchewan Organic Directorate is very happy to endorse this
project.
Sincerely,
[enter supporting organization or applicants name]
