This conference in Manitoba will provide opportunity for learning and
participation in discussions focused on local food security. This is
of value in its own right but it also provides a learning model for a
conference being planned for FSS at the end of May. For these reasons
Food Secure Saskatchewan is hoping to encourage participation in this
event and with funding support from the Public Health Agency of Canada
is able to subsidize conference registration, travel and accommodation
costs for several delegates.
The ‘catch’ behind this offer of support is that we would like those
participating to, in turn, volunteer to become members of a planning
‘team’ for FSS to develop the themes and agenda for the Saskatchewan
conference in May. We would also like you to become members of Food
Secure Saskatchewan. We are looking to recruit a geographic and
sectoral cross-section of delegate representing the north, central,
and southern regions of the province and including food producers,
public sector workers and community agency staff or volunteers.
If you are interested in this conference and the related offer of
support please contact Don Mitchell with Food Secure Saskatchewan at
630-8817, or e-mail me at donmitchell@sasktel.net. Time is of the
essence because the conference is in February, registration may fill-
up as it did last year, and air travel is currently available on a
seat sale with Air Canada and West Jet.
Those interested may wish to book on their own. Registration is a
nominal cost and the experience would be valuable.
In solidarity,
Don Mitchell
