Dr. L.R. Symes
Larry Symes joined the University of Regina in 1970 and has
been a professor in the Department of Computer Science since 1974. He is
currently the Director of Information Services at the University of
Regina. He
received his Ph.D. from Purdue University in 1969. Dr. Symes was Head of the
Department of Computer Science from 1972 to 1982; Dean of the Faculty of
Science from 1982 to 1992; and Associate Vice-President (Research), Dean
of Graduate Studies and Research, and International Liason Officer from
1997 to 1999. He was seconded by the Government of Saskatchewan
as Executive Director - Post-Secondary Services Branch, Saskatchewan Education,
Training and Employment Department from June 1994 to August 1995; Multimedia
Learning, Saskatchewan Education Department and Saskatchewan Post-Secondary
Education and Skills Training Department until June 1996. He was also on the
Board of Directors of Hospital Systems Study Group (HSSG) from 1978-1994 (Chair
1980-1983).
Current professional activities include being a member of the Provincial Action
Committee on the Economy, Chair of the Board of Directors of the
Saskatchewan Communications Network, and Chair of the Board of
Directors of the Saskatchewan Research Network Incorporated.
Research interests include: Software Engineering and Programming Languages.
