Villahermosa, Tabasco, Mexico

My main purpose in visiting Villahermosa was to view the massive Olmec heads in the archaeological park. (I was also in need of a city large enough to get me back on my way to Regina.) The Parque Museo de la Venta was great and well worth the trip. The designer had attempted to keep the setting as natural as possible and the result was a quiet jungle like setting that was a pleasure to explore. There were many signs in English and Spanish so it wasn't necessary to hire a guide.

Just inside the entrance to the park there was a small zoo with a variety of animals.

There was also a gigantic geodesic dome for a host of exotic birds. I was lucky to be there at feeding time and saw a rainbow of splendid colours as the birds flitted between the feeding trays and the trees.
