Zunil, Guatemala

Part of the fun of going to Zunil was seeing the beautiful countryside along the way. There was also a short stop in the village of Almolongo along the way and there we got to watch the local Maya women carrying all kinds of bundles on their heads.

We also got to see people piling onto the many small half-tons that were a common form of transportation in this area. They were taxis really. To my everlasting surprise that's the mode of transportation we grabbed on the way back from Zunil!!

Another interesting sight was the women washing clothes at the side of the river. Just above the river there was an outlet from a natural hot spring so they had hot and cold running water.

The streets and alleys of the village of Zunil were incredibly steep. There was also a beautiful big church. There was a small market going on in front of the church although the major market day was not until Wednesday that week. Different villages each had their own major market day it seems.
