Bullfight
Bullfighting in Cancun
-
See the bull?
- See his head hanging down in exhaustion?
- See the blood pouring from his back?
- See the blood pooling on the ground by his front hoof?
- See knives and barbed lances in his back?
See anything glamorous about this?
It is not glamorous,
it is not sport, and
it is most certainly not art on the part of the matador.
I'm writing this in the hopes that other people don't make the same mistake that I did
and condone bullfighting by attending one out of curiosity.
There are 3 parts to a bullfight.
-
Preliminary to the bull being released into the ring, he is stabbed in the back between
the shoulder blades. So he is bleeding before he enters the ring.
Part 1: A man on a horse, padded all round so he can get close to the bull minimizing danger
to anyone but the bull, goes up to the bull and jams in two barbed spears to make the bull
bleed more.
The matador bates the bull during this operation so that more bleeding is ensured.
The man on the horse sticks in 2 more barbed spears.
-
Part 2: The matador is still around and about, bating the bull into activity.
There are a couple of matador want-to-be's doing the same thing; this spells the matador
from his arduous task.
Another man comes into the ring with 2 more barbed spears that he sticks into the bull.
More matador bating and the man with the spears sticks in a couple more.
-
Part 3: The matador comes out with a couple of swords and starts jabbing the bull.
In the 'fight' that I saw, the matador must have struck the heart, because the bull stumbled
once then got up only to drop down completely and never get up again.
In just under 15 minutes, the 'bullfight' was over and the bull was dead.
In my opinion, it is senseless and barbaric.
