  • We met representatives from CIPS, we learnt a lot of things about their organization.

  • The Neuralink brain implant lets Arbaugh control a computer cursor with his thoughts, this is very interesting as it indicates a hopeful advancement for disabled individuals' autonomy.
  • I learned that guns can be 3D-printed, which can be manipulated to retain the same functionality of that of a real gun. This makes it very dangerous as citizens can now own different copies of guns in their household without the police being able to track down these weapons.

  • Today, we had a presentation from CIPS. The presentation talked about what CIPS is, and how it can be beneficial to us as computer science students. Volunteer opportunities, job boards, and certifications are a few of the things that CIPS can help us with.

  • Something important from the CIPS presentation was that they emphasized the importance of obtaining your I.S.P certificate. Because UofR is an accreditated university, it only takese a minimum of 2 years of IT experience after graduation to apply for the I.S.P.

  • Today, we were given a CIPS presentation by Thomas Boxall and Trevor McDonald (President and Director of CIPS Saskatchewan respectively). It was a very informative and helpful presentation that provided some insight on the technicalities of CIPS and the many benefits that it offers. They also shared some general knowledge during the Q&A portion which I appreciated. I think CIPS is a very great and useful tool.

  • Today we encountered the CIPS Sask Presentation where they talked about member benefits(different opportunities, product, and services). How their mission is to protect the public through ethical and professional practices, while maintaining integrity. Then they talked about the different types of certifications: ISP, ITCP, and AITP. The presenters mentioned that 3 months before you graduate, you aer able to apply for the CIP certification accreditation in which you will receive when you gradate.

  • An important concept I encountered today was learning about the CIPS. During the presentation, I gained a better understanding in regards to who the CIPS is and what their mission encapsulated. Indeed, I learned about how the CIPS are an association of IT professionals across Canada, and that their goal is to protect the public through ethical and skilled IT professionals and practices.
